FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Functional Medicine is a comprehensive, individualized approach to treating chronic conditions and unexplained symptoms. With the help of advanced testing and comprehensive review, we will focus on the root cause of illness. Functional medicine stresses the importance of gut health, mitochondrial function, nutritional optimization, toxin elimination, and lifestyle factors. We realize that the body functions as a complex system and that no individual is created the same and therefore, no treatment should be the same.
Unfortunately, functional medicine is not covered by insurance. Functional medicine offers a personalized, individual approach which is not considered cost effective by the insurance companies. The provider will spend a lot of time obtaining a thorough history and reviewing in depth laboratory testing. In addition, there will be a lot of time spent providing patient education and coaching. Part of the inspiration for Freedom Functional Medicine was the idea of patients having autonomy over their own health and having freedom from being under the control of the insurance companies. You can, however, utilize your health savings account for payment of services, labs, and supplements.
